Wenthworth and the Maroons

Gov. WentworthSir John Wentworth (9 August 1737 – 8 April 1820) served as the Royal Governor of Nova Scotia from 1792 to 1808. Research has uncovered letters that make reference to the Maroons and their movement to Halifax.

While undocumented, there may have been some settlement in the Africville area by Maroons.

Wentworth owned a farm in Dartmouth and had black slaves at the time of his appearance in Halifax. One of the slaves was said to be his mistress.
