The People

Jessica (Aunt Jessie) owned a lot of Back the Field. Since that was a property on the ocean, it was subject to erosion. Aunt Jessie always said that she owned part of the Basin too since that was where a lot of her land ended up.

If you wanted to visit her, well open the gate, but do not wander from the path. Aunt Jessie was an avid gardener (especially with dahlias and lilies), and if you put a foot in her garden, well she would come out with her whip. Watch out though. Aunt Jessie carried a small leather strap and whipped your ankles if you were in her garden.

On Sundays, if you went to the church with her and were a girl, you best have your white gloves on, and pants were not allowed. "A girl with pants might as well be naked" was her well known comment on that.
