Rockhead Prison

The City Prison (1854-1957) was also known as Rockhead Prison.

Located near the corner of Leeds and Gottingen Streets, the prison became surrounded by the expansion of Halifax. While not originally in the city, it was in close proximity to Africville, housing the worst that Halifax had to offer.
