The Abitoir

While some residents of Africville were employed at the animal slaughterhouse, the facility was far from resembling the modern meat packing plants of today.

A place where the smell could become unbearable was within the sloped area of 'Round the Turn. The smell was prevalent and conditions from the abattoir contributed to the degradation of the quality of life in Africville.
